Sholamir is a short science fiction story set on the USS Syanica, a space ship part of the vast Federacy Empire. Young officer Lt. Dana Holly specializes in climbing and search and rescue, often transporting to perilous locations on alien planets. She's also a descendant of a survivor of genocide - her mother was the sole member of her side of the family to make it off of Sholamir, her home world, after the occupation. Dana grew up with her mother's trauma permeating everything - yet her mother rarely spoke of their home world or the events that had taken place, leaving Sholamir a mystery.

That is, until on a routine mission to free some trapped cargo on the planet Coele, Dana encounters something unbelievable in a cave deep under the planet's surface. What she finds will expose her to extraordinary danger, but it may also help her find answers about what really happened on Sholamir.

This is a half-sized zine measuring at 5.5" x 8.5". It contains 36 pages, and was printed, collated, cut, and stapled by hand by Cutlines Press.

What the heck are zines?

Zines are self-made books that come in all shapes and sizes, made by people all over the world. Many zines offer healing through poetry, the sharing of personal stories, and even self-help tips. They're ephemeral, and fleeting, yes. They have copy marks and dog-ears, sometimes. But those analog imperfections are part of what we love about them.

  • Our Press

At Common Meter Press, we publish zines by writers with whom we share an affinity for poetry and non-traditional fiction. We print, collate, and staple our in-house books and zines by hand, often partnering with local printers.

  • Our Distro

Passionate about DIY media, we also stock poetry, fiction, non-fiction, music, and culture zines from zinesters (that's what you call someone who makes zines) from all over the world in our distro (that's what you call a zine shop).
